The Park Hill South boys swept through the 800-meter events Thursday, April 28 at Park Hill District Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., winning the team title at the small meet.
Brendan Briody, Christian Ludtke, Andrew Reece and Cole Mazeitis opened with a victory in the 4x800 relay, and later, Kolin Williamson won the open 800. Briody took first in the 1,600 at 4 minutes, 45.19 seconds to beat Ludtke by a little less than 2 seconds.
Park Hill’s Parker Canfield came in third in a tightly bunched long-distance finish.
Jashar Turner won Park Hill South’s other individual title, clearing 6-2 in the high jump. On the girls side, Jasmine Case won both hurdles events, while Auriell Maltbia-McKinney topped the triple jump field.
Park Hill South’s girls fourth out of seven teams with Park Hill just two points behind. Amanda Alexander (100) and Madison King (3,200) were the event winners for the fifth-place Trojans.
Park Hill’s Cody Mullins won the high jump for the Trojans, who were fourth out of the five boys teams.
Park Hill and Park Hill South were both scheduled to compete in the Gary Parker Invitational on Friday, April 29 in Blue Springs, Mo. The meet started and reached the 4x200 relay before the combination of rain and lightning forced organizers to cancel the remainder of events.
No partial results were given out.
The Suburban Conference Red Division Championships were scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, but results were not available at The Citizen’s deadline.
