Park Hill volleyball snaps Gold Division skid; South picks up Red Division win

Park Hill ended a three-match Suburban Conference Gold Division skid with a 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Raymore-Peculiar on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Mo.

Sabrina Lane, a junior, continued a recent strong run of play with 10 kills for Park Hill while freshman Kristen Birmingham and junior Rachel Pella added seven apiece. Lane also recorded two of the Trojans’ four service aces in the win.

Park Hill improved to 13-10-1 overall and 3-6 in Gold Division play by avenging an earlier loss to the Panthers.

Park Hill South 2, St. Joseph Central 0

The Panthers were dominant in a 25-14, 25-10 sweep of a Suburban Conference Red Division matchup Tuesday, Sept. 26 in St. Joseph, Mo.

Annika Welty recorded 10 kills while sophomore Rachel Francis and freshman Abbie Day added five each for Park Hill South, while Welty and Day had four service aces each. Welty also led the defense with four blocks.

Park Hill South improved to 6-1 in Red Division play, pending a Tuesday, Oct. 3 matchup at Raytown (result not available). The Panthers then have a rematch with Liberty on Thursday, Oct. 5 that could go a long way toward determining the league champion.

Liberty won the previous matchup with Park Hill South this season to end the Panthers’ Red Division win streak dating back to 2014.

Lee’s Summit West 2, Park Hill 0

The Trojans struggled in attack during a Gold Division loss Tuesday, Sept. 26 in Lee’s Summit.

Thirteen errors limited the offense for Park Hill in Lee’s Summit West’s 25-19, 25-16 victory. The Titans had 25 kills and just eight errors on the way to the sweep.

Lane led Park Hill with six kills, while Pella recorded nine total blocks — three solo. Kayla Huffman added a team-high 16 digs for the Trojans to go with nine assists.
