With mayor Nan Johnston absent and about half the board and much of city staff attending remotely, the Parkville Board of Aldermen met last week.
Board president Marc Sportsman began the meeting with a tribute to Alan Shank, the city’s director of operations for public works, who died recently after 35 years of service. Sportsman called for a moment of silence for Shank, his service, and his family.
The board gave preliminary approval to a three percent increase to the city’s sewer service fees, which was introduced by director of public works Alysen Abel. The city has discussed the need for sewer rate increases to keep up with repairs and state-mandated plant upgrades in the near future.
A public hearing on the proposed rate increase will be scheduled for next month at city hall.
