A Parkville man is accused of pointing a gun at his three children over a domestic dispute in the 10000 block of Crooked Road in Parkville on Nov. 20.
William E. Arrington, 40, is now facing three felony charges of felony unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of a weapon/discharging a weapon.
Arrington was described as highly intoxicated when he arrived at the address armed with a gun and pointing it at his children, ages 4, 6 and 10, according to court documents.
He was accused of blocking the driveway with his truck and not allowing his children or their mother to leave.
When Platte County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, the mother and three children had left and Arrington exited the front door with a gun in his hand.
He then fired ‘two or three rounds’ into the air. Arrington disregarded orders to put down the gun and went back inside his house. He came out the door a short time later, without a gun, and was taken into custody.
Deputies found two pistols and a AR-style rifle near the front door.
Court documents allege that Arrington said the victim wasn’t taking the children, before walking into the garage and taking a gun out and pointing it at all four of the victims in the car.
One of the children called 911 and all three laid in the floor board at the request of the 911 dispatcher.
He placed two handguns in his waistband and kicked in the door of the house and returned a short time later and allowed the car to leave. Deputies arrived shortly after. Following the arrest, Arrington asked for medical attention stating that his shoulder was injured while taken into custody.
A Smith and Wesson .45 caliber handgun was loaded and had a round in the chamber, while a Rock Island .45 caliber gun was also located but didn’t have any ammunition loaded inside. The AR-15 rifle was laying on a staircase and had a magazine loaded and one round in the chamber, according to court documents.
During interviews with a detective, Arrington said he had a ‘lapse of time’ and only remembered being in the house and getting into his gun safe, not pointing it at the car with his children inside. When that was mentioned, Arrington reportedly broke down crying and asked to end the interview.
The Parkville man had an alcohol-related suspension of his license and his criminal record includes a guilty plea to distributing/delivering or manufacturing a controlled substance. He was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation on that case.
Earlier this year, deputies went to the residence as Arrington was described as intoxicated and kicked his garage door in and he had a gun in his hand, threatening suicide. His wife left with the children for their safety that time.
The court entered a not guilty plea on the four charges on Nov. 22 and he requested bond be set during that appearance. When he returned to court on Nov. 26, the bond modification was denied.
Arrington returned to court on Dec. 10 but no information was available at press time.
