The City of Parkville was poised Tuesday night to give final approval to a preliminary development plan for the newest Park Hill School District elementary school.
Earlier this month, the Parkville Board of Aldermen gave unanimous preliminary approval to the plan, by Hollis and Miller Architects, with director of facilities Rich Hill attending on behalf of the district.
Elementary School No. 12 would be located on about 30 acres just south of the Meadows of Creekside subdivision in western Parkville.
The development includes access from NW Brush Creek Parkway. The applicant is also proposing public improvements, including the removal of intersections on Jessica Street, the improvement of the existing cul-de-sac on Brush Creek Parkway, and a proposed trail by Platte County Parks and Recreation.
The 72,000 square-foot, two-story elementary school would be built on undeveloped property already zoned for such purposes.
“This is a wonderfully laid out use of the space,” said alderman Doug Wylie, adding that it would be a welcome addition to the Parkville community.
According to an engineer attached to the project, the campus is designed to be walkable, with pathways from the nearby neighborhoods attached to the Platte County Parks and Recreation trail.
The new school is anticipated to open in 2025.
Also at that meeting, the board approved a preliminary development plan for Creekside West Apartments, which consists of two hotels, two restaurants and four apartment buildings with a total of 176 residential units on about 12 acres off Homer Parkway.
A plan for the area was approved in 2018, but a reconfigured application was presented to Parkville Planning and Zoning earlier this summer.
