Pirates clinch berth to state

The Pirates extended their impressive season as both the girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams finished in the top-two in the Class 4 District 4 Race at Lee’s Summit North High School on Oct. 30 to move on to state.

Platte County’s Andrew Early finished in second place at the Class 4 District 4 Race on Oct. 30 to help the Pirate’s clinch a spot at state.

The Platte County boys’ won their district with 37 points, narrowly defeating Smithville who finished with 39 points. The Platte County girls’ finished in second place out of eight cross-country teams when the Pirates ended with 78 points.

Seven of the first 19 runners to cross the finish line in the boys’ race were Pirate runners, led by Andrew Early. The senior was the second runner to finish the 5K as he ran a time of 17:01.

Andrew Johnson and Jace Trimble finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place. Johnson finished ahead of Trimble as the sophomore ended with a time of 17:12, while the senior ran the race in 17:45.

Kage Audas ended in 11th place with a time of 18:07 and Kade Meinke ran a time of 18:21, earning a 13th place finish. Tanner Johnson finished in 17th place with a time of 18:39 and Benjamin Letcher finished in 19th place to help the Pirates clench a state appearance when the freshman ended the race with a time of 18:50.

For the Lady Pirates, Sisely Mitchell continued to impress in her sophomore campaign, finishing the race in 20:12 and second place overall. Carmen Gentilia was the eleventh runner to finish the race as the sophomore ran the 5K in 22:06.

Sloan Kassen was the last Pirate to run a sub-23:00 when the junior finished the race in 22:59, good for 18th place. Alex Beeman was the 25th runner to end the district race as the Platte County sophomore finished with a time of 23:22.

Marissa Orellana crossed the finish line in 23:45 for 29th place and Madison Palmer ended with a time of 24:03, earning 33rd place. Julia Greco was the final Pirate to finish the district race when the sophomore ended with a time of 25:11.
