The Platte County swimming team got second place in a tri-meet against Belton and Rockhurst on Sept. 2.
The Pirates ended with 335.5 total points, coming behind Rockhurst with 598.5 points and ahead of Belton with 140 points. Seniors Collin Burton and Dylan Bietz led the way for Platte County as each of them finished in first place in their events.
Bietz was the top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.22 and junior Carson Howe finished in fifth place at 24.95. Burton ended ahead of the pack in the 100-yard butterfly with a 58.35 split and Howe finished in fifth place once again with a time of 1:10.48.
Burton also ended in second place in the 200-meter freestyle right ahead of Gage Jonkman who finished in fourth place. In the 100-yard freestyle, Bietz finished in second place with a time 52.74 and Jonkman ended in fourth place with a 56.05 split.
Pirate freshman Palmer Keith impressed with a 5:13.16 time in the 500-yard freestyle that gave him a second-place finish in the event. His freshman teammate Palmer Keith finished in fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke ending at 1:02.7.
The Pirates also had a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:35. That relay team consisted of Keith, Burton, Jonkman and Bietz.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Deacon Gutshall, Burton, Jonkman and
Bietz finished in third place with a 1:37.39 split. Platte County will be competing at Belton again on Friday at 5 p.m.
