The Platte County Pirates had their season come to an end on Monday, Nov. 5, at home with a 5-1 loss to East-Kansas City in the Class 3 District 8 semifinal. The Pirates reached the semifinals by upsetting Smithville on the road in a game that went to penalty kicks at the end to decide the match. Platte County was one better with the 8-7 win.
The Pirates ended the regular season at home with a 2-0 loss to Grain Valley that saw an impressive play by senior goalkeeper Paul Havemeier. In the second half, the Pirates were called for a handball in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Grain Valley’s striker tried going to Havemeier’s left, but the senior dove and swatted the ball away for the save.
