Pirates' postseason ends with state title, multiple awards

In the aftermath of Platte County winning the Class 5 State Baseball Championship, eight Pirates earned postseason awards, three of which received all-state honors.

Platte County junior Dayne Wimberly made the all-conference first team as an outfielder this season.

Sawyer Allen, Cameron Lewis and Jake Knudsen were the only Pirates to be selected for all-state. Allen and Lewis were also on the first team all-conference, and Knudsen made the second team in the Kansas City Suburban Conference Blue Division.

Allen was on the mound more times than any other Platte County pitcher this spring, striking out 46 batters and posting a 2.07 ERA. Allen also had 19 hits and nine RBIs.

Lewis was the Pirates’ short stop this season, stealing 16 bases, connecting with 36 hits – seven of which were doubles – and having 15 RBIs. Knudsen was Platte County’s catcher in his senior campaign where he led the team with 115 putouts, while also having 24 hits and 22 RBIs.

Dayne Wimberly joined Allen and Lewis on the all-conference first team as an outfielder. Wimberly had 31 putouts, 24 hits and nine RBIs in his junior season.
