The Pirates narrowly missed out on first place by 1 point when the Platte County boys’ swimming team ended in second place at the Platte County Invite on Oct. 9.
Platte County had two top-4 finishers in the 200-yard individual medley, led by freshman phenom Palmer Keith who was the first swimmer to finish with a time of 2:03.50. Gage Jonkman ended with a time of 2:21.53, earning him a fourth place finish.
Dylan Bietz ended in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.76 and Carson Howe ended in ninth place with a 55.33 time. Brayden Carter finished in fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:04, followed by Same Ragone in seventh place.
Deacon Gutshall was the third fastest swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke when the Pirate ended with a time of 1:02.25. Jonkman was right behind him, with a 1:02.97 time.
Palmer finished in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke when the freshman ended with a time of 1:05.37. Douglas Wallace finished in eighth place and Austin Hough ended in ninth place.
The Platte County 400-yard freestyle relay team of Collin Burton, Jonkman, Palmer and Bietz ended in first place with a time of 3:29. 74. The same four swimmers were on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1:46.84, earning a second place finish.
The Pirates were one of 12 teams competing at the invite as Platte County finished with 381 points, right behind Raytown South with 382 points. The Pirate’s next competition is against Smith-Cotton at Sedalia Middle School on Oct. 16.
