Rumors kicked up on social media last week about potential cases of COVID-19 at the Platte City Spectrum Station, 2401 Kentucky Ave. This week the Platte County Health Department confirmed the outbreak.
In a statement released Tuesday, July 14, the health department announced the daycare and early learning center will remain closed through Friday, July 17.
“The Platte County Health Department is aware of several positive cases of COVID-19 at Spectrum Station in Platte City,” according to the release. “Early last week Spectrum Station administration reached out to the health department for guidance, and immediately our disease investigators began working diligently with Spectrum to identify and reach out to the close contacts.”
Moving forward after re-opening, Spectrum Station will require all staff to wear masks throughout the day. They will also require parents to wear masks when dropping off and picking up their children.
While the health department commended Spectrum’s “rapid communication and proactive response,” employees who posted warnings on social media last week and contacted The Citizen early this week told another story.
A post made to a Platte City Facebook group on Wednesday, July 8 recommended parents pull their children as soon as possible. After an employee tested positive, the poster said she and other employees were also feeling ill. The poster was critical of management actions regarding the first positive test, and subsequent positives.
“Please I beg you watch your children for symptoms or family members,” she wrote.
The health department did not confirm if any other similar facilities were currently experiencing outbreaks.
