The Platte City Friends of the Arts kicks off the Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at the Platte County Courthouse on Main Street, Platte City.
Bring lawn chairs or blankets and relax on the courthouse lawn to enjoy a free family event featuring a live band along with the People’s Choice Singing Contest, a pop-up car show, and free water and ice cream.
Band K, featuring Duetable, an acoustic classic rock/new country band that plays songs from the 60s to current, will be the first band of the summer series.
The 2022 Harper Haus Music Co. People’s Choice Singing Contest will happen during the band’s break and showcases area college-bound high school seniors with a $500 grand prize college scholarship. Audience members will vote on the contestants and the winner is announced at the end of the event.
This year’s contestants are:
Ashlyn Helmich - West Platte
Lukas Lockett - R-3
Madelynn Darst - R-3
Kyla Spradlin - North Platte
Bring your beautiful ride out for the pop-up car show happening on Main Street. Any and all cars are welcome provided they are unique or car show quality. Wells Bank is sponsoring the free water and ice cream, La Cabaña restaurant will be offering specials and The Farmer’s House will be onsite selling burgers and hot dogs, hot roasted nuts, drinks and more.
“We really enjoy bringing the community together each month in the summer to share great music, beautiful cars, good food, and free ice cream.” said Dori Thomas, president, Platte City Friends of the Arts.
This event is made possible thanks to the community’s support of the Platte City Friends of the Arts and donations from the City of Platte City, Harper Haus Music Co., and Well’s Bank.
Mark calendars now for the rest of the series. The July 9 concert will feature The Nicole Springer Band and on Aug. 13 Platte County locals Steve Bankey and The Flatlanders will be rocking Main Street. The July and August concerts will also offer a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.
The Platte City Friends of the Arts began in 1999 with a small concert at Snow Creek. Fast forward to 2018 and this small group provides so much for Platte County, including sponsoring the Platte City Community Band and offering Fine Arts Scholarships to college-bound Platte County Seniors. In addition to producing the Summer Concert series, PCFA also sponsor student and adult art shows throughout the year.
Outdoor concerts began at Riverview Park, then moved to Platte Ridge Park through 2009. Summer music concerts have been on the courthouse lawn since 2010.
