The Platte County girls’ swimming team won its final home competition of the 2022 year when the Lady Pirates came out on top over Raymore-Peculiar, Kearney, Savannah and Smithville on Dec. 20.
Platte County finished the day with 456 points, followed by Raymore-Peculiar in second place with 404 points and Kearney in third place with 396 points. Savannah was the fourth-place team with 388 points and Smithville ended with 300 points.
Platte County started and ended the meet with a relay victory, beginning with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.62. Drew DeLay, Madeline Judy, Ashleigh Cruce and Brooklynn Hays won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:00.89.
Hays ended the day with a perfect four for four as she was on both relay teams that took first place and won two individual events. She won the 200-yard Individual Medley in 2:20.33 and the 100-yard freestyle in 56.10 seconds.
DeLay took second place in a pair of individual events, completing the 50-yard freestyle in 26.48 seconds and finished the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.33. Cruce took third place in the 100-yard butterfly with 1:09.74 and seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.14 seconds.
Judy won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:12.62 and took sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle, where she was followed by Cassidy Hostikka in 10th place. Blair Bolling finished in fourth place in diving with a score of 113.9.
Platte County had a pair of relay teams finish in the top-4 of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Bolling, Jayden Benninghoff, Ella Chiddix and Ireland Shank finished in 1:57.21 and Rachel Bailey, Isabel Grell, Erin Anderson and Hostikka in 2:08.45.
Benninghoff claimed second place in the 100-yard backstroke, completing the race in 1:13.02, while Chiddix’s time of 1:18.86 earned her sixth place. Shank and Bolling finished back-to-back in second and third places in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:21.49 and 1:22.38, respectively.
Platte County will have one more competition in 2022, a road meet at Belton on Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. The Lady Pirates will start the New Year at home against St. Joseph’s Central, Smithville and Summit Christian Academy on Jan. 10 at 4 p.m.
