The Platte County boys’ soccer team (11-5) is in the midst of its best stretch of the fall as the Pirates have now won six of their last seven games, including three straight victories.
Coming off a 2-1 loss to Park Hill South (8-5), Platte County bounced back with a 3-1 win at Belton (5-7) on Oct. 10. The Pirates pounced their next opponent, St. Joseph’s Central (7-8), by a 7-0 margin on Oct. 12.
Platte County senior Aaron Cordova had himself a day against the Indians, finding the back of the net four times in the contest. Cordova had a hat trick before any other Pirate scored as he helped Platte County take a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Pirates added the last four goals to the scoreboard in the final seven minutes of the contest. Felix Victore and A.J. Schrick scored back-to-back goals within seconds before sophomore Jack Klippenstein made it 6-0 with 3:34 left.
Cordova snuck in his fourth goal in the final minute to give Platte County its sixth consecutive win against the Indians, dating back to 2015. The Pirates most recent victory came by a 3-2 score at Pembroke Hill (5-11-1) on Oct. 13.
The Raiders struck first on the day in the fourth minute, followed by a Schrick goal to tie the game in the 10th minute. Pembroke Hill added to the scoreboard with 26:00 minutes left in the half and took a 2-1 lead at the break.
Gavin Nichols came out of the second half gate fast – scoring both goals – as the junior tied the contest in the 46th minute. The Pirate defense shut out the Raiders the rest of the way and Nichols score the go-ahead goal with four minutes remaining.
Platte County has now tied its season long win streak with three as there are three games left ahead of districts. The Pirates will host Grain Valley (9-5) on Oct. 19 and William Chrisman (10-8) on Oct. 24 before wrapping up the regular season at Raytown (6-8-1).
