The season will continue for eight area golfers after the Class 2 District 8 tournament was held on Monday, Oct. 1 at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville.
Playing on ‘The Outlaw’ course, Platte County advanced the Shipp sisters to the next round of the state postseason, while Park Hill South saw four golfers punch their tickets to sectionals. Park Hill will also be represented on Monday, Oct. 8 at the Class 2 Sectional 4 meet held at Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs.
Platte County took third in the team race with 383, followed by Park Hill South in fifth and Park Hill took seventh. The top two teams that advanced were Staley, the district champs (367) and Liberty (370).
Liberty North had the medalist in the field with Averi Mickelson shooting an 8-over 80, winning by four shots.
Freshman Eden Shipp had the best round for Platte County shooting 87 — two shots better than her sister, Jessalyn Shipp — and took fifth. Jessalyn shot 89 and tied for sixth with Maddie Hill of Park Hill South.
“It would’ve been great to have a Platte County team represented at sectionals tournament, but we are excited to that the Shipp sisters will be moving on together,” Platte County coach Trevor Short said.
Leah McFee took 11th place for Park Hill South, shooting 95, two shots better than Platte County’s Kasydie Shipp, who tied for 14th with a 97.
Kasydie Shipp had an interesting hole and the results pleased Short. She ran into trouble on the No. 15 hole and then on No. 16, her drive sat on the lip of the bunker. She hit the ball sideways onto the fairways and then her next shot was four feet from the hole.
Sadie Franklin tied for 19th for the Panthers and Abbie Ervin took 23rd, earning the final qualifying spot in the field over more than 50 golfers. Between those two finishes was Park Hill’s Ishika Akula, who shot 102.
The next closest to not make the cut was Park Hill’s Mackenzee Resch and Platte County’s Taylor Holbrook, both shot 110, four shots off Ervin’s pace.
