Platte County soccer teams play each other

The Park Hill girls’ soccer team (6-9) extended its winning streak to four in a row with a 6-2 win over Platte County (8-10) on April 25 before falling 3-1 to Park Hill South (12-3) on April 27.

Park Hill has now won the last five matchups with Platte County with the Lady Pirates’ last victory in the series being in the Oak Park Tournament on April 28, 2012. The Lady Trojans erupted with four first-half goals, all of which were before their opponent scored once.

In the 11th minute, Park Hill senior Katie Baak had a free kick towards Paige Barry who connected on a pass to Ella Nelson. The senior approached the goal from the right side and kicked the ball to the upper-left side of the goal.

In a 3-minute stint – with 30:02 and 27:36 on the clock – the Lady Trojans had a pair of sisters score to push the margin to 3-0. After senior Allison Estanich scored, freshman Alyssa Estanich converted on a deep shot from the right side.

Platte County immediately responded with a pair of shot attempts, but both were off the mark. Taylor Quigley got Park Hill back on the board in the 38th minute on a shot from inside the box, making the score 4-0.

With right under six minutes left in the half, Platte County finally ended the shutout when Sloan Kassen broke loose. The senior put the Lady Pirates on the board to make the score 4-1 at halftime.

The Lady Pirates chipped at the deficit, striking first in the second half when Lily Kytasaari found the back of the net. Park Hill closed out the contest with a pair of goals in the 55th and 59th minutes.

Park Hill turned a 6-game losing skid to a 4-game winning streak after that, but that ended in its next game. Park Hill South – who took down the Lady Trojans 4-2 on April 4 – fell behind early but scored the final three goals of the night.

Park Hill sophomore Lydia Keller put the Lady Trojans ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 21st minute, but that was short-lived. Makenzie Wright connected with a pass to Susi Schulze who scored in the 36th minute.

With a 1-1 tie at halftime, Olivia Clemons scored in the 51st minute off an assist by Grace Leak to put Park Hill South ahead. Lilly Reuscher put the game away with a goal in the 70th minute.

This ended a 2-game losing streak for the Lady Panthers who were coming off a 2-0 loss to Lee’s Summit North (8-4) on April 25. Park Hill South was outshot 22 to 11 on the night and gave up one goal in each half.

As for Platte County, it didn’t dwell on the 4-goal loss to Park Hill for too long, bouncing back with an 8-0 victory over Raytown (2-10) on April 27. On May 1, the Lady Pirates lost 2-1 in a matchup with Pembroke Hill (6-11) and the Lady Trojans beat Staley (7-11) 2-0.

Platte County will have two more games ahead of the postseason. The Lady Pirates will head to Belton (2-6) on May 4, then host Grain Valley (13-4) in the regular season finale on May 9.

Park Hill will host Lee’s Summit North on May 4 and Liberty (11-6) on May 9. Park Hill South will have three games left in the regular season, starting with a road game at Liberty on May 4.
