Platte County swimming dominates in final home meet of season

Platte County celebrated senior night Tuesday, Oct. 11 with a convincing win at Platte County Community Center North and victories in 9 of 11 events overall.

In a field of five teams, the Pirates totaled 762½ points and beat St. Joseph Central by a wildly absurd margin due to scoring of meets with four or more teams. They swept the three relay events, while junior Caden DeLay accounted for two of six individual wins.

DeLay led a 1-2-3-4 finish for Platte County in the 100-meter freestyle with Jerry Orozco in second followed by Joe Ragone and Skylor Parrott. DeLay also won the 100 backstroke in 1 minute, 2.32 seconds, more than 5 seconds in front of the second-place finisher.

Other event winners included Orozco (200 individual medley), Ragone (200 freestyle), Rhett Spell (50 freestyle) and Hunter Bowen (100 breaststroke). In the 50 freestyle, Platte County’s Luke Hodson, Bowen and Zach Lienemann were second, third and fourth. Members of the winning relays were Orozco, DeLay, Spell and Bowen (200 medley); Ragone, Bowen, Spell and Aleiss Meeks (200 freestyle) and Orozco, Ragone, DeLay and Luke Hodson (400 freestyle).

Meeks, Lienemann and Jack Lawver are the lone seniors on Platte County’s roster.
