Hannah Havemeier added a school record to her recent run of success.
After making her first Missouri State Swimming and Diving Championships qualifying cut, Havemeier set a new school record in the 200-yard individual medley during a 10-team meet Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Platte County Community Center North. She won the event in 2 minutes, 23.56 seconds to better the previous mark current teammate Hailee Baer set last season.
Havemeier ended up with the lone win for Platte County, which finished third with 303 points — 22 behind second-place Kearney.
In addition to the victory, Havemeier also came in third in the 100 freestyle, while senior teammate Rachel Valentine was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke. All three of the Pirates’ relays were in the top three with the 200 freestyle (Valentine, Baer, Havemeier and Bailey Newell) and 400 freestyle (Olivia Forrester, Lindsey Swindler, Alison Boydston and Riley Schmidt) both runners-up.
Havemeier (100 breaststroke), Valentine (100 breaststroke) and the 200 medley relay remained Platte County’s only state qualifiers after the meet. Valentine was first to make a state cut in December, while Havemeier and the relay hit marks three days ahead of this meet in the COMO Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
