For the third consecutive season, the Platte County football team took down Kearney as the Pirates defeated the Bulldogs 35-3 on Friday, Sept. 3.
After falling in the first game of the season, the Pirates bounced back in there home opener as the defense made it difficult for the Bulldogs all night long. After Kearney took an early 3-0 lead, Platte County didn’t allow another point and forced four turnovers.
Pirate’s cornerback Garrett Smith and linebacker Blaine Kuhn returned two of the three intercepted passes for a touchdown. Smith picked the ball off twice from the Bulldogs and returned the first one for Platte County’s first score of the night.
The Pirate defense only allowed 210 total yards for the Bulldogs offense in the contest. Junior safety Cameron Wolfe forced a Kearney fumble to go along with his team-high nine tackles.
Offensively, Jared Parsons ended with 212 passing yards as the junior completed 15 of his 20 pass attempts. Parsons connected with Cole Rhoden for a remarkable 99-yard touchdown reception in the first half to help give the Pirates a 21-3 lead at the break.
This victory over Kearney was Platte County’s first contest against a Suburban Conference Blue Division opponent, and the Pirates didn’t disappoint. The Pirates will be back at it this Friday when they head to Grandview.
