Platte County's holiday season kicks off this weekend in Weston

The holiday season will get a kick start in Weston this weekend when the city lights up with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Celebrating 30 years spreading holiday cheer this season, Weston’s Father Christmas will lead the children’s holiday parade down Main Street at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. The lighting ceremony for the mayor’s Christmas tree will follow at Weston City Hall at the bottom of Main Street.

Youth and adult carolers will add to the evening’s festive spirit and refreshments and souvenirs will be available for the children. Weston’s downtown shops will also be open late, and dressed for the upcoming holiday season.

Weston’s holiday season will continue in December with the Weston Candlelight Homes Tour Dec. 1-3. Ticket prices vary and are available through the Weston Chamber of Commerce, westonmo.com.

The Northern Lights lighting ceremony at Zona Rosa will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with an appearance by Santa’s reindeer and live performances. Visits with the Fairy Princess will be available in The Grove after the ceremony.

Platte City will hold its annual lighting ceremony on the Platte County Courthouse lawn starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in Platte City and holiday music and refreshments will be available. Santa’s reindeer will be on hand, and horse-drawn carriage rides through downtown will be available. Children’s crafts, a balloon artist, face painting and more will be available. Visitors can also meet the Snow Princess at the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum. Winners of the Platte County Citizen’s annual holiday coloring contest will be announced.

The City of Riverside will host its annual holiday lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. Storytime with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be held at 5 p.m. at the Riverside branch of Mid-Continent Public Library with the lighting ceremony following at 6 p.m. near Corner Café.

Parkville’s 24th annual Christmas on the River will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 in downtown Parkville. Santa Claus will arrive on Main Street and the Park Hill School District’s 1,000 voice children’s choir and the School of Rock will perform. Parkville’s shops and restaurants as well as special vendor booths will be open for business. Parkville’s annual holiday fireworks display over the Missouri River will begin at 8:30 p.m.
