Ramsey reels in four first-place finishes

North Platte junior Lindsay Ramsey won four separate  events in the Class 2 District 8 Meet on May 4.

PLATTSBURG – North Platte has made a habit of hanging track and field banners in recent years and is on track to keep that going after an impressive outing at the Class 2 District 8 Meet at Plattsburg High School on May 4.

By the time the day was over, 14 North Platte athletes finished in the top-4 of various events to become all-district and advance to sectionals. The boys found a way to claim third place with 85 points.

The Lady Panthers were in a battle with Lafayette County for a top-4 finish and came up three points shy. North Platte ended with 86 points and Lafayette County had 89 points.

Nothing could stop junior Lindsay Ramsey, who became a district champion in all four events she competed in. She did that in three sprints and one relay.

Ramsey won the 100 in 12.39 seconds, won the 200 in 25.04 seconds and won the 400 in 56.52 seconds. Only one runner finished between Ramsey and Graci Williams in the 400 as the sophomore claimed third place in 1:04.11.

Having two all-district 400 sprinters came to good use in the 4x400 with the Lady Panthers becoming a district champion in the event with a time of 4:13.77. Morgan Ball and Kylee Sipes joined Ramsey and Williams in the relay.

Myla Bailey, Brianna DeBord, Chloe Heckman and Williams ran a season-best time in the 4x800 for the other all-district Lady Panther relay. They crossed the finish line in 10:51.12, earning fourth place and a spot in sectionals.

DeBord and Heckman brought it in the individual races, running a pair of season-best times to advance as individuals. DeBord took second place in the 800 in 2:30.3 and Heckman became a district champion in the mile with a time of 5:30.46.

Heckman was the second 2-mile runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 11:57.65. DeBord had a tough break in the mile, taking sixth place in 5:53.27 and missing out on a sectional berth.

Corbin Britting led the way for the North Platte boys, finishing top-4 in all three sprinting events. His best race was the 400, where he not only had a season-best time of 51.26 seconds but also finished in first place.

Britting also had a season-best time in the 200 where he claimed second place in 22.86 seconds. He claimed all-district status in the 100 when he took fourth place in 11.71 seconds.

North Platte didn’t stop in the long-distance; Noah Heckman and Drake Keraus were both district champions. Heckman outlasted Keraus’ season-best in the 2-mile by 7.16 seconds when the senior won with a time of 10:24.58.

Earlier in the day, Keraus stood above all in the mile with a first-place time of 4:39.81. Heckman missed out of the top-4 by less than three seconds.

Keraus also took third place in the 800 with a time of 2:07.2. Keraus and Heckman kicked the day off with a season-best fourth-place finish in the 4x800 in 9:05.83, alongside Waylon McCracken and Devin Navarro.

The Panthers have left some points off the board in the field events in years past, but not this time. Caleb Wright and Coen Rainsbarger have been impressive all season and got past districts.

Wright finished in fourth place in the high jump by leaping 1.72 meters. Rainsbarger had the third best pole vault by clearing 3.5 meters.
