North Platte’s relays continued to show promise, but four top-three finishes in those events weren’t enough to push the Panthers past West Platte in the St. Joseph Christian Invitational team standings.
West Platte totaled 102 points to North Platte’s 101 for a 3-4 finish Thursday, April 21 in St. Joseph, Mo. North Platte’s 4x400-meter team of Maddie Lee, McKenna Fulton, Gracie Roach and Abby Fisher closed the meet with a first-place finish, but West Platte’s third-place showing from Ciara Davies, Rachel Heili, Lea Moose and Sikoya Richard ended up enough to hold the team standings in place.
In addition, North Platte’s 4x100 of Fisher, Emmie Lee, Brittney Gerling and Callie Pataluna and the 4x200 team of Fisher, Emmie Lee, Gerling and Roach were both runners-up. The 4x800 team of McKenna Fulton, Shelby Fisher, Katie Parkhurst and Maddie Lee placed third.
Fulton (300 hurdles) and Roach (high jump) were the top individual medalists for the Panthers, both placing second.
However, West Platte’s 4x800 team of Lea Moose, Heili, Richard and Lauren Moose opened with a victory, while Emily Norman won the 300 hurdles in addition to coming in second in the 100 hurdles. Heili rounded out the Bluejays’ individual winners with a 2 minutes, 39.57 seconds finish in the 800.
Sydney Oberdiek (discus, shot put), Lea Moose (pole vault) and Ciara Davies (400) all posted runner-up showings to help West Platte come in just 12 points back of second-place Christ Prep Academy.
On the boys side, Gentry Scrivener (discus — 117 feet, 1 inch) and Eric Brown (pole vault — 10-6) posted victories for North Platte. Scrivener also finished second in the shot put at 40-9½ while Brown went 38-8 in the triple jump for a runner-up showing.
North Platte wound up fourth in the team standings with 63 points.
West Platte came in 10th out of 15 teams with 44 points. The Bluejays’ 4x800 team of Daniel Cicha, Max Davies, Andrew Cicha and Dylan Lock led the way with a second-place showing.
