There was an unusual signing during the latest signing period where two Park Hill High School Students signed to play a sport not offered by the district in college.
Two athletes who compete for Park Lacrosse will take their talents southward and continue the sport at Rockhurst University next fall.
Brooke Elliott and Alex Tetu signed on to play for the Hawks after playing together since they began Park Lacrosse, a club team, six years ago.
Elliott, whose father coaches the team said he has seen the sport grow in the northland and the club now offers multiple teams from youth through high school.
Elliott and Tetu now coach the youngest members of the club and have been a large part in the growth of the sport.
“When we started out there were no subs,” Tetu said. “The girls who played, played the entire game. Now we have a JV and a varsity team with subs. It’s a huge difference. To see the program grow now where we have little kids through high school is great. I’m coaching a second through fourth grade team with Brooke. There are way more kids now and it’s great to see the sport grow in Kansas City.”
Park Lacrosse has members from across the Northland and a few from Kansas. Players hail from the four North Kansas City High Schools as Wells as Park Hill and Park Hill South and St. Pius X.
“This is a product of the newness of our program,” Rob Elliott said. “A lot of schools down south have had programs for years. Some families have grown up with it because its in their school systems. Here we have families from multiple schools coming together to make a team. It says a lot about their character to be able to bond really well together and be great teammates to each other.”
