Parker Rotterman reached the 100-win plateau during a triangular Thursday, Feb. 2 in St. Joseph, Mo.
A senior at North Platte, Rotterman won by forfeit in Mid-Buchanan’s dual victory over St. Joseph Central and pinned Liberty North’s Tanner Loveall in the second period of a 160-pound match in a dual loss to the Class 4 Eagles. Rotterman competes for Mid-Buchanan as part of a cooperative athletic agreement with North Platte.
Rotterman missed all of his sophomore season while recovering from a broken femur. He missed qualifying for the Class 1 Missouri State Wrestling Championships by one match as a freshman then won a Class 1 District 3 title as a junior.
In his first trip to state, Rotterman went 1-2. He currently ranks No. 5 in Class 1 at 152, according to missouriwrestling.com.
Sam Martin Invitational
Rotterman scored a takedown in overtime to complete a round robin sweep at 152 on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Plattsburg, Mo.
After three falls and a 10-2 major decision over Polo’s Patrick Covey, Rotterman ended up in overtime with Chad Maupin of North Callaway in the defacto championship match. Rotterman improved to 35-9 overall and enters this weekend’s Class 1 District 4 tournament looking for a second straight district title.
Rotterman’s title helped Mid-Buchanan finish second to the hosts in the final team standings.
West Platte was 12th in the final team standings and did not have a finalist. Brayan Rodriguez, a junior, reached the championship bracket at 132 but lost to Winfield’s Ben Provost in the semifinal. Rodriguez lost a 4-2 decision to Plattsburg’s Gage Rush in the third-place match.
Thomas Tharp, a sophomore, also ended up in the third-place match at 285 but held on for a 1-0 victory over South Harrison’s Lane Fuston to finish third.
Plattsburg Quadrangular
West Platte went 1-2 in duals Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Plattsburg, Mo., beating Lincoln Prep for the second time in three weeks but losing in KCI Conference competition to Plattsburg in addition to a tight loss vs. St. Pius X.
Against Lincoln Prep, West Platte won three of four head-head matches in a 34-27 victory with decisions for Wyatt Kleman (145), Justin Howard (160) and Mason Taylor (170). Kleman defeated Kevonn Thompson 9-8 in ultimate tiebreaker.
St. Pius X won three of five matches in a 33-30 victory. Rodriguez (132) and Howard (160) provided pins for West Platte, but the difference ended up being a 5-1 victory for the Warriors’ Thomas Ross at 138.
In a 63-12 loss to Plattsburg, West Platte’s head-to-head wins were for Blake Davidson (4-0 at 126) and Tharp (2-1 at 285).
