Vehicles with key fob or push-button systems are not eligible to receive a steering wheel lock. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office has obtained from Kia and Hyundai a supply of the steering wheel locks and are making them available to Platte County residents who own qualifying vehicles. If you do own a vehicle(s) that qualifies for this program, you may obtain a free steering wheel lock from the Platte County Sheriff?s Office located at 415 3rd Street in Platte City. You must be a resident of Platte County, present a valid identification card and proof of ownership of a qualifying vehicle to obtain a free steering wheel lock. The steering wheel locks will be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“While the steering wheel lock is an effective tool to limit vehicle theft, residents should also remember to lock their vehicles, and not leave any items of value in plain sight,” said Sheriff Mark Owen.

Steering wheel locks are also available for Parkville residents at the Parkville Police Department (8880 Clark Ave. Parkville), and for Kansas City residents from any KCPD Division Station or the Community Engagement Division.
