A shooting was reported Thursday, Jan. 4 at this residence in Ferrelview, Mo. A toddler was injured with officials reporting another child pulled the trigger.

Sgt. Jeffrey Shanks of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said the victim remains in critical condition as of Monday afternoon but couldn’t release the gender or ages of the children involved, only saying they were under 10 years old. According to officials at least one shot was fired in a mobile home located in the 500th block of Sixth Street, and an emergency call was made.

Shanks said there two adults and five children at the residence when the shooting occurred. He noted the family is a bit ‘shaken up’ and has asked that some information not be released to the public.

The case remains under investigation, including whether or not the shot fired was an accidental or intentional discharge, and authorities have not released where the child was shot.

“There are a lot of rumors out there from the media talking to neighbors, from the child died to 8 million other ones,” Shanks said. “That is not the case at this point.”
