Lady Trojan junior guard McKenna Sonsa has scored 40 points in the last two games for the Park Hill girls’ basketball team (7-11), helping it go 1-1 in that time frame.
The Lady Trojans matched up with Lee’s Summit North (6-10) and were on the verge of having their seven-game winning streak against the opponent being snapped on Jan. 23. It took two overtime periods, but Park Hill came out with a 64-61 triumph.
Sonsa scored a career-high 22 points – which was the first time she ever scored more than 18 – when she made four shots from downtown and made five trips to the charity stripe, going eight-of-10. Sonsa went five-of-10 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and forced two steals.
Maddie Crump made two triples to finish with nine points, five assists and two steals. Cali Richards and Miah Crockett both had seven points.
In the next game, Park Hill took on Staley (11-8) and lost 51-44 on Jan. 26. Sonsa poured out 18 points – once again shooting four-of-seven from behind the arc – while grabbing seven boards and dishing out four assists.
Five of the final seven regular season games for the Lady Trojans will be on the road, with the only home games being against Liberty (11-5) on Feb. 6 and Lee’s Summit (7-10) on Feb. 13. Park Hill’s next game is at St. Joseph’s Central (11-5) on Feb. 3.
