Sophomore stars set to lead Park Hill’s offense

Park Hill’s Ella Nelson is one of the most experienced seniors ahead of the season.

After winning five district titles in a six-year stint, the Park Hill girls’ soccer team had an uncharacteristic losing record last year but is looking to bounce back.

The Lady Trojans had more wins than losses every year from 2014-2021 before finishing with a 5-16 record in 2022. Park Hill has nine returning starters, three of which are seniors, and will bring back experience.

Ella Nelson, Allison Estanich and Katie Baack are the most experienced seniors as Nelson and Estanich are set to be two of the more aggressive goal scorers. Sophomore Kenzie David will be another offensive threat for Park Hill after an impressive freshman campaign in 2022.

“The sophomore class were all key contributors as freshmen on varsity and it’s hard to be on varsity as a freshman,” Park Hill head girls’ soccer coach Makenzie Heavey said. “They have the potential for greatness with a lot of experience in years to come.”

Taylor Quigley, Lydia Keller, Emily Woelk and Izzy Amos all contributed as freshmen last spring and will be big pieces again this year. Amos saw some time as goalkeeper and will be protecting the Lady Trojans’ goal this go-round.

“We’re going to be more experienced than last year, they’re hard working, eager and committed. The girls have great chemistry and are eager to improve,” Heavey said.

Estanich has had a tough start to her career – with her freshman year being cancelled due to COVID-19 and having an ACL tear in her sophomore year – but is an exceptional leader. Skylar Rash, Katie Miller, Hannah Henderson, Maryn Yager and Karla Adjemian will fill out the large senior class.
