A promising late season buildup ended with some disappointment for Park Hill South last year.
Miranda Steczak qualified for the Class 2 Missouri State Golf Championships and tied for 47th as the Panthers’ lone representative. She became the first to reach state for Park Hill South since 2012, but the Panthers hoped for more.
Now a senior, Steczak heads an experienced roster that includes potentially five senior contributors.
Grace Dunker, the lone big loss from last year’s squad, was the only other player to qualify for Sectional 4 play, but she finished well out of contention for a state spot. Izzy Nitzel and Grace Cunningham — both seniors — also played in the top five for Park Hill South at districts last year, while coach Tracy Mangels also expects seniors Erica Edmiston and Erin Boucher to take on bigger roles.
Annie McFee, a freshman, could also compete for playing time, trying to help Park Hill South improve on a third-place finish in the Suburban Conference Red Division and a sixth-place showing in Class 2 District 8 play — one shot behind rival Park Hill.
