For the first time in almost half a decade, the Park Hill South girls’ basketball team (20-3) took down Park Hill (8-13) in consecutive games.
Since a 3-game winning streak from 2017-19, the Lady Panthers have failed to defeat their cross-town rival two straight times until this year. After a 54-32 triumph on Dec. 1, Park Hill South came out with a 67-48 victory on Feb. 9.
The Lady Panthers haven’t swept the Lady Trojans in regular season play since 2013 but have been on a tear lately. Park Hill South hasn’t lost since Jan. 7 and has come out on top in its last 12 games.
Lady Panther freshman Addison Bjorn had as many points as Park Hill’s two leading scorers combined – Maddie Crump and Boston Wand – as she had 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Crump made half of Park Hill’s triples, shooting three-of-seven from deep, to end with 11 points as Wand finished with 10 points and seven boards.
Park Hill South had three other players score in double figures, starting with Avery Simmons’ 15 points. Regan Williams shot five-of-eight from the field and scored 13 points and Tatum Kells had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Park Hill struggled shooting the ball on the night, shooting 14-of-50 from the field and six-of-20 from behind the arc. Park Hill South forced 12 steals and outrebounded Park Hill 35 to 25.
The Lady Trojans only have three games left in the regular season and the Lady Panthers only have two left before both will head into the Class 6 District 8 Tournament. Park Hill will head to Lee’s Summit North (7-13) on Feb. 16 and Park Hill South will host Liberty (13-8) on Feb. 17.
