South swimming secures Silver Division Title

The Park Hill South girls’ swimming team dominated at the Kansas City Suburban Conference Silver Division Meet, while Park Hill had 28 of its 29 performances being a personal best or season-best time on Feb. 4.

Park Hill South finished the conference meet at Gladstone Community Center with 548.5 points, which was 95.5 points more than the next team, Oak Park. Park Hill ended in ninth place with 164 points, while having 14 new state consideration times.

The meet opened up with Park Hill South winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.86 and Park Hill claiming fourth place with a time of 1:58.11. The Lady Panthers had Lizzie Landuyt, Alyssa Gordon, Molly Henry and Hannah Petersen while the Lady Trojans had Karis Barton, Alysa Schieber, Ava Hughbanks and Avery Whalen.

Park Hill South’s Natalie Dunaway won the 100-yard freestyle in 52.84 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle in 23.84 seconds, while also being the anchor of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Charlotte Sander, Petersen and Henry were on the 200-yard with a time of 1:38.28 and Sander, Landuyt and Gordon ended in 3:37.11 in the 400-yard.

Ava Sullivan, Brileigh Wilkens, Rosetta Mormino and Schieber made up Park Hill’s 200-yard freestyle relay team in sixth place with a time of 1:49.88. Whalen, Barton, Mormino and Hughbanks finished in sixth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:54.14.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Henry was the runner-up in 59.57 seconds and Hughbanks finished in fourth place with a time of 1:01.16. Park Hill South’s Zella Berberich and Brooke Nichols ended in fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Gordon and Landuyt earned second and third places. Gordon ended in 2:11.54 and Landuyt finished with a time of 2:14.52.

Landuyt won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.22 seconds and Hughbanks was in fourth place in 1:02.54.  Gordon won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.22 and Berberich ended in seventh place with a time of 1:12.92.

In diving, Park Hill South had three of the top-4 swimmers. Megan Wells won with a score of 422.55, followed by Brooke Robbins with 413.45 points and Molly Toohig finished in fourth place with 344.35 points.
