South wins Park Hill doubles tourney

Park Hill South’s Henry Jacobs helped lead the Panthers to a first-place finish in the Park Hill doubles tournament on April 12.

The Park Hill South boys’ tennis team won the Park Hill doubles tournament on April 12.

The tournament started early in the morning and was split between Park Hill and Park Hill South for pool play. After the morning matches were played, the results set up final matches with the Panthers walking away with first place.

Liberty North, Barstow, Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit North, Grain Valley and Blue Springs filled out the teams that were in the tournament. Park Hill South matched up with Liberty North in the finals and won 3-1.

The Panthers played well all day, with a pair of 4-0 wins against Lee’s Summit North and Blue Springs after tying with Barstow 2-2 to start the tournament. Park Hill South beat Liberty North 8-1 in regular season play on April 13 to move to 6-3-1 on the season.

Park Hill and Barstow met in the third-place match. The Trojans put up a fight but fell short by a score of 3-1 and earned fourth place in their double’s tournament.

Park Hill split its four matches on the day – with each one being decided by a score of 3-1 – starting with a win over Lee’s Summit. The Trojans lost to Liberty North and moved to 6-4 when the tournament concluded.

Park Hill South will take on Liberty on the road on April 20. Park Hill South will match up with Staley on the same day.
