The Heritage Event and Arts Center in Leavenworth, Kan., will host their Flower, Home & Garden show Saturday, March 12, which will be free to the public, and a fundraiser for the Heritage Center.
One of the exhibitors will be the Platte City Floral and Gift Shop.
“They have participated at our past shows and are wonderful folks to work with,” Denise Souza, board member and volunteer at Heritage Center, said. “We decided to offer this show as it will offer our attendees a great variety of services.”
The Heritage Event and Art Center is a non-profit organization that provides a spacious and welcoming community venue to accommodate groups for public and private events. It is primarily run by a host of volunteers.
The Leavenworth County Master Gardeners will be offering programs at the show. The Container Garden will be at 11 a.m.; Favorite Gardening Tools will be at noon; Caring for and Splitting Mums is at 1 p.m.; How to attract Butterflies to your Garden is at 2 p.m. and Fairy Gardens is at 3 p.m.
Platte County local businesses at the event will also include The Farmer’s House in Weston. They will be exhibiting and selling their products. In 2010, The Farmer’s House launched its first program, The Seeds of Change Garden.
“The initial participants in the garden program were Platte R3 High School’s special education classroom and Platte County Board of Services day rehabilitation program,” Souza said. “At the end of the first season it was determined that the garden had benefited the students and adults who had participated by teaching them how to plan out a project, work together to prepare, plant and maintain it, and the reward of harvesting the produce. They took great ownership and pride in the garden and loved looking up recipes that used the things they had grown. The garden was a success and additional area schools have been participating every year since the program was initiated.”
The show will also feature gifts and home décor, bird houses, outdoor patio furniture and grills, Power Home Solar, Hillside Honey, Jet’s Produce, Parks & Rec and home improvement businesses.
The grand prize at the event will be a St. Louis getaway, which includes an overnight stay at the Towne Place Suites (a new hotel) in St. Louis and two tickets to the St. Louis Botanical Gardens. There will be one entry form per person and the winner does not need to be present to win.
There will be Master Gardeners available to answer questions, during and after the programs. Guests are encouraged to participate and ask any questions they might have.
All the organizers of the event believe this will be a great way for people who are beginners at gardening to learn a lot about the best ways to plant and nurture plants and flowers.
Souza is looking forward to watching families get out and about after a long winter to enjoy the show along with the beginning of spring.
Garden enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to attend.
The show’s sponsors are Citizens Savings & Loan, Leavenworth, Kan., Leavenworth County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Home2 Suites by Hilton, Leavenworth.
Admission is free and concessions will be available. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 109 Delaware St., Leavenworth, Kan.
