The Dynamic Park Hill swimming duo of Jack Stanley and Raphael Realina led the Trojans over Platte County and Kearney at the Platte County YMCA on September 20.
Park Hill came out with a comfortable victory, scoring 603 points on the day. Platte County claimed second place with 517 points and Kearney was in last place with 402 points.
The Trojans started the tri-meet off with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.78. Realina and Stanley were joined by Finn Harrold and Jaime Franco in the 200-yard freestyle relay where the Trojans finished in 1:38.35 to take first place.
Park Hill ended the day with a first-place finish with a time of 3:42.24 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Adam Conrad, Stanley, Harrold and Realina were on that team.
The Pirates took second place in three separate relays. Deacon Gutshall, Weston Grimes, Collin Burton and Carson Howe led the Platte County 200-yard medley relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:50.94.
Grimes and Gutshall were also on a 200-yard freestyle relay team – along with Gage Jonkman and Brayden Carter – that earned second place in 1:41.98. The final event of the day was the 400-yard freestyle relay where Joey Croy, Burton, Jonkman and Howe finished with a time of 3:32.15.
In the first individual event of the day, Park Hill’s David Keightley took third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.85 and his teammate Jonathan Hanson earned first place in the next event, the 200-yard individual medley, with a time of 1:15.83.
Along with being a key contributor in a pair of relays, Stanley finished in first place in two individual events. After winning the 50-yard freestyle in 22.91 seconds, Stanley claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.71.
Realina also finished in first place in a pair of individual events. Realina was the first swimmer to complete the 100-yard freestyle – 1.44 seconds ahead of the next finisher – in 52.67 seconds, before finishing the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.89.
Elijah Osborne was the only diver who competed, adding 20 points to the scoresheet for the Trojans with a final score of 188. In the 100-yard butterfly, Park Hill finished in second through fourth places thanks to Richard Hoover, Keightley and Jack Vaden.
For Platte County, Jonkman was the only individual champion as he won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.48, while also claiming second place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.03. Carter brought home a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.56 and earned third place in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.05 seconds.
Gutshall gained second place in the 200-yard individual medley and ninth place in the 100-yard breaststroke, with times of 1:15.83 and 2:12.54, respectively. In the 50-yard freestyle Burton, Howe and Grimes finished consecutively from third to fifth places, while Croy claimed seventh place.
Park Hill and Platte County will both compete against each other – and 19 other schools – in the Eubank Invite on September 29. The invite will be at Raytown Wellness Center.
