Suburban soccer roundup: Trojans, Pirates on winning streaks

Park Hill won 4-2 in penalty kicks against Lee’s Summit West in a Suburban Conference Gold Division game on Monday, Oct. 22.

Jack Austin, Chris Munoz, Aaron Simpon and Andrew Hrisak scored in the PKs.

Stefan Derra had a clean sheet in regulation and in the two overtime periods.

Park Hill plays Park Hill South on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to wrap up the regular season in the annual Kick out Cancer game, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Lee’s Summit 4, Park Hill South 2

The Tigers scored two early goals and then pieced together two more goals together to pick up a Suburban Conference Red Division win on Monday, Oct. 22.

Down 2-0, Carson Lindsey got a goal for the Panthers in the 19th minute, getting a rebound from a shot by Jacob Garza.

Lee’s Summit then got a goal in the 34th minute to make 3-1 at the break and another in the 57th made it 4-1.

Austin Gates, on a pass from Lindsey, scored in the 66th minute for Park Hill South.

Park Hill South had only three shots on goal.

Park Hill 1, Lee’s Summit North 0

Playing for the second time in five days due to a make up date, the Trojans got the better of the Broncos this time around, winning 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

The Broncos beat the Trojans, 2-1 in penalty kicks, on Oct. 15 in Riverside, Mo. in a Suburban Conference Gold Division game.

Jack Austin provided the only goal in the contest for Park Hill, while Stefan Derra posted a second straight shutout.

Park Hill South 3, Liberty North 0

The Panthers picked up a win at home on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Suburban Red Division play.

Carson Lindsey scored goals in the 34th and 40th minute. Cooper Hayes had a goal in the 39th minute for the Panthers as well.

Platte County 2, Grain Valley 1

The Pirates posted a win against Grain Valley on Thursday, Oct. 18 in Grain Valley.

Ethan Dolan and Blake Cochran had the goals for the Pirates. Logan Allen had an assist in the victory.

Platte County played at Grandview on Tuesday, Oct. 23, but the results were not available by press time. On Thursday, Oct. 25, Kearney visits Pirate Stadium to conclude the regular season.

Park Hill 2, Blue Springs 0

The Trojans got goals from Aaron Simpson and Chris Munoz to pick up a Suburban Conference Gold Division contest on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Stefan Derra posted a shutout for Park Hill.

Platte County 3, Raytown South 1

Blake Cochran had a pair of goals to help the Pirates pick up a win against the Cardinals on Tuesday Oct. 16 at Pirate Stadium. Jake Havemeier had the other marker for the Pirates. Pierce and Cochran had assists for Platte County.

Class 3 District 16

The Kearney Bulldogs are the top seed in the upcoming Class 3 District 16 tournament, which starts on Oct. 29 at Kearney High School.

Platte County is the No. 2 seed and will face Smithville at 7 p.m. that day in one of the semifinals. The Warriors have beaten the Pirates in both Suburban Conference Blue Division matchups.

Smithville won 3-0 on Oct. 10 and won 1-0 on Sept. 25. Last year, the Warriors beat Platte County in the district championship game.

The other game will have Kearney —which lost to Platte County at home — facing Excelsior Springs at 5 p.m. on Oct. 29.

The championship game is set for Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.

Class 4 District 16

Park Hill South earned the top seed in the four-team district that starts on Oct. 30 at the Park Hill District Soccer Complex.

The Panthers draw St. Joseph Central — the only team with a losing record — at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., North Kansas City plays Park Hill.

The championship game is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.

North Kansas City is a defending district champion, but won District 15 last year, while Staley was the District 16 champion.
