It was a mixed bag last week for one of Platte County — and Missouri’s — top programs.
Park Hill split a pair of duals at the Lee’s Summit triangular and made some noise at the Shawnee Mission North Invitational across the state line.
At the Kansas event, the Trojans captured five individual titles and had a few just miss that mark.
In the 106-pound bracket, Park Hill sophomore Cael Keck got the best of Maize’s Nakaylen Shabazz with a third-period pin.
At 126, sophomore Kody Ketchum’s win was probably a foregone conclusion as he rode wins by fall in all the bouts leading to the title tilt only to win the bracket on a medical forfeit by Maize’s Clayton Bowers.
One weight class up, it was a similar story.
Trojans senior Trey Crawford pinned his way to a title, winning all bouts by fall, capped by sticking Lansing’s Hartwell Taylor a minute into the championship match.
Kal Miller joined the pin party at 145.
The sophomore early ended all his bouts, including the final over host Shawnee Mission North’s Justus Hulse just a minute into the action.
At 152, junior Grayson DiBlasi didn’t want to take any time, either.
The Trojan grappler won all his matches by fall and took down Harmon’s Yohn Cools Garcia just 23 seconds into the final period.
Lee’s Summit West 41, Park Hill 36
Three Trojan wrestlers won their weight classes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Lee’s Summit West at the Lee’s Summit West Triangular on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Lee’s Summit West High School.
Cael Keck (106), Miller (145) and DiBlasi (152) all registered to earn all Park Hill points not registered via forfeit.
Park Hill 41, Raymore-Peculiar 34
In the other dual of the triangular, Park Hill got a more pleasant result.
Five Trojans led the way with contested wins en route to a team win.
Notching victories were Keck (106, by fall), Ryker Smith (120, by fall), Ethan Vande Ven (132, decision), Miller (145, technical fall), William Pierson (182, by fall) and Chris Bizzle (195, decision).
