The Platte County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Riverside Missouri Police Department, is continuing the investigation of the double homicide and child abduction that occurred just after 11:15 p.m. Feb. 27, 2025.
The first homicide occurred in Riverside near the intersection of Vivion Road and NW High Drive at approximately 11:15 pm in the parking lot of a car wash. The suspect shot the first victim, 33-year-old Katherine Bjorklund, of Kansas City North, in that parking lot and then took that victim’s vehicle from the scene. Bjorklund had no known connection to the suspect and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Manning
The suspect, George Manning, a 43-year-old black male, proceeded in the stolen vehicle immediately to the 4400 block of NW 50th Street in unincorporated Platte County. While at the residence in the 4400 block of NW 50th Street, the suspect shot and severely injured 34-year-old Mercedes Ontiveros, shot and killed her son, 12-year-old Giuliani Calderon, and abducted a five-year-old female from the residence and fled. Ontiveros was transported to an area hospital for treatment, Calderon, a student at Walden Middle School, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An Amber Alert was issued for the five-year-old abducted female.
At approximately 5:10 am on Feb. 28, the abducted five-year-old female was located, safe and unharmed at a relative’s residence and the Amber Alert was canceled.
The suspect was reported to have committed several felonies in Kansas City, Kan. after the two homicides and child abduction.
Just before midnight, KCK officers responded to a shooting and discovered a non-injury aggravated assault. Witnesses described the suspect as a match for Manning.
A carjacking was reported near North 11th Street and Rowland Avenue in KCK, with the suspect again matching Manning’s description. A blue Hyundai Ascent was stolen from in front of a convenience store on Quindaro Boulevard and that vehicle left KCK.
The suspect then returned to Platte County in a stolen automobile. At approximately 7:30 am, the suspect was located on foot just off Vivion Road near the intersection of Waukomis Drive. The suspect, identified as Manning, was shot during an officer involved shooting and was declared deceased at the scene.
The investigation of the officer involved shooting is being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and any information related to that investigation will be released by that agency.
The investigation to the felonies committed in Kansas City, Kansas will be investigated by the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.
The investigation of the two homicides and the child abduction will continue to be conducted by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
