When members of the United States Congress failed to agree on a spending bill Monday evening, it forced the shutdown of the US government. This meant that Tuesday morning, most “non-essential” government offices were shuttered and an estimated 800,000 workers nationwide on the government payroll were ticketed for furloughs. In the Kansas City metropolitan area, local officials say the shutdown was expected to impact about 40,000 workers employed at various federal offices and agencies in the area. Some of those offices are in the Northland and more specifically, Platte County.
