Platte County finalized its transportation tax agreements with municipalities and road districts this week.
The Platte County Commission met Monday, March 6 to approve agreements between Platte County and various communities and organizations for the disbursement and use of roads sales tax funds. Agreements were approved with the Farley and Platte City Special districts, the Cities of Camden Point, Dearborn, Edgerton, Ferrelview, Houston Lake, Parkville, Platte Woods, Riverside, Tracy, Weatherby Lake, Lake Waukomis and Platte City as well as the Villages of Farley and Ridgely.
The county-wide transportation sales tax was renewed by voters at a reduced rate on Nov. 8, 2022 with collection of the 10-year tax set to begin in October 2023. The county keeps a portion of the tax for county-maintained roadways and bridges and allocates funding for improvements including new construction, rehabilitation, resurfacing, restoration and operational improvements of existing roadways, bridges and other transportation infrastructure. Typical maintenance work such as snow removal, mowing, pothole patching and other daily management is not an approved expense.
Also at the meeting, in parks and recreation, the commission approved a bid and contract award with Precor Inc. for the purchase of more than $260,000 in fitness equipment for the Platte County Community Centers. A bid and contract award for rubber flooring and carpet replacement at the community centers was also approved with Campione Interior Solutions for more than $256,000.
