Trio of top 10 finishes lift Platte County golf to 2nd in Grain Valley tournament

A pair of top-five finishes lifted Platte County to second place in the Grain Valley Invitational.

Matt Madill shot an 11-over 83 to finish fourth with Jack Laderoute one shot back of him in fifth for the Pirates on Monday, April 4 at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. In all, three players were in the top 10 to lift Platte County to a 344 total.

“We did not play our best golf today, but the outcomes gave us motivation,” Platte County coach Trevor Short said. “We are on the verge of having some breakout performances by the players.”

Payton Boekhout placed ninth for Platte County with an 87, while Jagger Zoellner rounded out the team score with a 90 — good for 15th. The Pirates have a week off from tournament but have a dual with Smithville scheduled for Thursday, April 6.

Platte County then plays in the Oak Park Invitational on Monday, April 11.

Winnetonka Invitational

Platte County finished fourth out of nine teams Wednesday, March 30 after entering as defending champion at the event.

The top four golfers all finished in the top 12 on par 71 Hodge Park Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo. The Pirates posted a 325 team score, which actually bettered their winning total from 2015.

“We are on the right track and will continue to make improvements as the season rolls on Short said.

Madill shot a 75 to place fifth for Platte County, while Laderoute’s 82 put him in a tie for 10th. Boekhout and Gary Hennessy rounded out the team total with matching 84s.

Liberty Triangular

Park Hill South came in third out of three teams Thursday, March 31 in Liberty, Mo.

Tanner Owen posted the second best score with a 36, three shots back of Liberty’s Sam Parrott for the medalist spot. Lee’s Summit North won the team competition at 155 with Liberty at 162 and Park Hill South at 167.
