Trojans battle defending champs to draw

The Park Hill Trojans’ soccer team got a tough test last week versus the defending Class 3 state champions East High School (Kansas City) and worked a draw in the annual Park Hill Fall Classic Tournament last Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Park Hill district stadium.

Park Hill keeper Will Poole went up high to collect the ball.

The Trojans were able to get a draw in the match thanks to the brilliant goalkeeping by senior Will Poole. The Trojans controlled the ball early until East got settled in and the Bears controlled the ball for most of the first half and much of that time was spent in Park Hill’s third of the field.

Poole came to the rescue seven times in the first half and the Trojans got a little bit of luck at the end of the half when an East shot went just over the crossbar in the final minute. Park Hill’s offense had a few chances in the first half with a couple of corner kicks but little pressure resulted.

The Trojans came out of halftime with more energy and got a shot on goal in the first minute of the second half which also generated a corner kick. Park Hill’s best opportunity came in the match’s 52nd minute when the East goalkeeper was caught out of position but senior Aiden Romsland’s strike went just over the crossbar of the empty net. Park Hill also had a great opportunity in the 61st minute but senior Ethan Howell’s shot also went just over the crossbar.
