Trojans drop 101 points, annihilate the Indians

Park Hill junior Marqueas Bell, above, scored 32 points, including a pair of dunks, in the Trojans dominant 101-42 victory over Fort Osage on Dec. 3.

Not often does a high school basketball team score 100 points – or 95 points through three quarters - but it only took the Trojan boys one game into the 2021 season to reach that feat as they throttled Fort Osage 101-42 on Dec. 3.

In the season opener at Park Hill High School, the Trojans started out in a full-court press to help them start off fast and strong. After Fort Osage scored the first bucket of the game, Park Hill scored four baskets in transition and in the fast break to take an 18-3 lead midway through the period.

Park Hill had 17 steals on the night, and it took a 34-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans didn’t hold back in the following period as they poured out 32 more points in the second quarter.

Marqueas Bell scored 12 of his game-high 32 points in the second quarter to help the Trojans take a dominant 66-16 lead at the break. Bell knocked down four treys and shot an efficient 57 percent from the field when he made 14 of his 22 field goal attempts, including four of his seven 3-pointers.

Sammy Hall set the tone in the third quarter by knocking down a 3-pointer in the opening minute as the senior finished with six points and nine assists. The Indians scored their most points in the third quarter, but the Trojans closed out the period on a 15-3 run – including four treys in the final 2:30 – to take a 95-30 lead.

The entire fourth quarter had a running clock and with 2:10 remaining, Luke Renton scored a layup to break the 100-point barrier. This was the first time Park Hill had scored 90 or more points since a victory over Truman in 2014.

Park Hill knocked down 12 shots from behind the arc in the contest when Ty Schreck, Renton and Hall all converted on two 3-pointers each. Gavin Schaag and Kendrick Bell made one trey and the Trojans shot 39 percent from behind the arc.

Kendrick Bell had a stellar performance in his first career start when the junior had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Schreck finished with 19 points, five assists and four steals, along with Renton’s 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.
