Trojans' impress in Greater KC Tournament to open the 2021 season

The Park Hill softball team wasted no time getting things going as the Trojans won four of their first five contests in the Greater KC Softball Tournament.

The Trojans started the opening weekend tournament off against William Chrisman on August 27, and poured out 15 runs in an impressive shutout victory. First year head coach Kylie Guthier told the Platte County Citizen that she was pleased with the way Park Hill began the 2021 season.

“It felt great to get out there and win in such a big fashion. All I can say is our coaches are very pumped about how things went and how this season can go,” Guthier said.

After a bit of a break on Friday, the Trojans were back at it in the afternoon to take on Oak Grove. After falling down 3-0 midway through the fifth inning, Park Hill responded with 10 unanswered runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to steal the game and move onto the gold bracket.

“I felt pretty confident in the team that we would do well and get into that golden bracket play. We still have some things to work on, even with the big wins,” Guthier said.

After falling in the first game on Saturday, Park Hill responded with back-to-back victories to close out the tournament. In the final two games, the Trojans outscored their opponents 16-2 with 20 total hits while only giving up six total hits.

“I think they adjusted well to pitchers who were out there. They adjusted well with timing and were aggressive with that; we had a lot of solid contacts and they did great offensively,” Guthier said.

The Trojans are looking to take the impressive tournament play into the season. Park Hill will start its regular season play on Thursday when the Trojans travel to Oak Park.
