With one regular season game left, the Park Hill boys’ basketball team (15-9) has clinched the No. 6 seed in the Class 6 District 8 Tournament after winning two consecutive games.
After losing back-to-back conference contests to Liberty (22-2) and Lee’s Summit West (9-13), Park Hill bounced back and defeated Pembroke Hill (15-4) 67-49 on Feb. 16. Kendrick Bell was the Trojans’ leading scorer when the junior poured out 22 points, while grabbing eight boards and five steals. Ty Schreck had an efficient night shooting the ball when the senior made seven of his 11 field goal attempts – including five of seven from deep – to end with 19 points.
Marqueas Bell made all seven of his free throw attempts and finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Park Hill then took down Raymore-Peculiar (10-14) 58-50 on Feb. 18 as the Trojans’ Kansas City Suburban Conference Gold Division record has been brought to 8-5.
The Bell brothers carried a large load of the offense, scoring 34 of Park Hill’s 58 points in the contest. Marqueas Bell scored 21 points, snagged five boards and had four steals, while Kendrick Bell ended with 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Trojans will close out the regular season against the winless Blue Springs South (0-21) on Feb. 22. Park Hill will be hosting districts as the sixth seed and will begin the postseason against North Kansas City (18-5) – who defeated the Trojans 54-49 in the William Jewell Tournament on Dec. 29 – in the opening round on Feb. 26.
