KANSAS CITY – Coming off two losses in the last three weeks and having to take on a district opponent, the Park Hill football team (4-4) continued its hot streak at home and comfortably defeated Staley (2-6) on Oct. 13.
With one game left on the regular season schedule, Park Hill remains perfect at home as it has won all four games at Park Hill District Stadium so far. The Trojans will have one more home game ahead of the postseason and will have a chance to go 5-0 there for the first time since 2014.
When Staley came to town, Park Hill produced 319 yards of offense and forced three interceptions to pull out the 37-14 victory. The Trojans scored in every quarter on the night, starting with a 1-yard rush by Bryce Lisaka with 6:34 left in the first quarter.
Staley responded with a 47-yard touchdown run to tie the game right over two minutes later. Gavin Schaag helped Park Hill regain the lead with a 2-yard scamper in the final seconds of the first quarter and the Trojans never looked back.
Park Hill went into the locker room with a 20-7 advantage after Schaag had another 2-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. The Falcons scored first in the second half with a 20-yard run by quarterback Luke Wilson to bring the game within one score, but the Trojans’ defense shut them out the rest of the way.
Lisaka and Schaag both had short rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and Keegan Turner knocked down the PAT both times, along with a 27-yarder in the fourth quarter. Dante Dixon intercepted two passes and Owen Keller picked off Wilson once.
Schaag score thrice on the ground and had 260 total yards from scrimmage. Lisaka brought in seven receptions for 69 yards and ran eight times for 20 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Alex Cook had nine rushes for 40 yards and Cam Jones ended with six receptions for 68 yards. Schaag completed 18 passes to five different players.
Park Hill has officially surpassed last season’s win total and is sitting in third place in the Class 6 District 8 standings with the expectation of staying in the spot regardless of what happens in the regular season finale. The Trojans will end the regular season hosting the best team in Missouri, Lee’s Summit North (8-0), on Oct. 20.
