The Park Hill swimming team took first place in the Blue Division of the Eubank Invitational – and the Platte County swimming team finished in second place – at Raytown High School on Sept. 29.
The Trojans ended the day with 274 points and the Pirates – who finished in the highest place since moving into the bigger division – ended with 226 points. Park Hill made an impact in the relays to come out on top, starting with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
That relay team was made up of Jack Stanley, Jaime Franco, Finn Harrold and Raphael Realina. The Trojans also won the 400-freestlye relay – with Stanley, David Keightley, Franco and Realina – in a time of 3:29.05.
The Pirates were right behind the Trojans in that relay, finishing in second place in 3:30.06. Platte County’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Deacon Gutshall, Carson Howe, Collin Burton and Palmer Keith finished in second place with a time of 1:35.92.
Realina won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.89 for Park Hill, which was his exact seeding time in the event, and then collected second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.57. Stanley won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.41 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 56.87 seconds.
Franco finished in second place in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.61 seconds. Elijah Osborne was the only diver, ending with a score of 181.50 in the event to give Park Hill 16 points; Osborne also finished in third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.22 to score 13 points.
For Platte County, Gutshall earned second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.97, immediately followed by Burton in 1:57.61. Keith won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.08 seconds, which was two places ahead of Burton who ended the race in 59.96 seconds.
Keith also took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.53, followed by Gage Jonkman in fourth place in 1:09.73.
