A brazen mid-day robbery last month at Jeff’s True Value Hardware in Platte City led to the arrest of two suspects, according to a spokesman with the Platte City Police Department.
On Friday, Dec. 30, witnesses said an unknown male entered the store, picked up items and simply walked out the door. The items taken included a chainsaw, according to the spokesman.
The alleged crime occurred at about 1 p.m. in the afternoon.
According to the spokesman, the man entered a vehicle, which drove off north of Platte City. A customer followed the vehicle and alerted authorities to its location, allowing Platte City police and members of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office to catch up with it along Highway 273 in Platte County.
Two males were taken into custody, and according to the spokesman, one of the men ingested heroin at the scene and required transport to a local hospital.
A check of Platte County records did not indicate any charges filed matching the details of the crime at this time. The spokesmen did not provide the identities of those allegedly involved in the theft and chase.
