“I am honored to be selected as Platte County’s new public health director,” Warlen said. “I have known Mary Jo Vernon for many years and I definitely have some pretty big shoes to fill. I am excited to start serving the citizens of Platte County.”

Warlen is no stranger to public health and has more than 27 years of experience and has worked in environmental health, communicable disease and response planning. Most recently, Warlen serves as the director at the Cass County Health Department.

Vernon and Warlen will work together as he becomes orientated to the Platte County Health Department’s programs, services and operations, along with the Platte County community.

Vernon is confident in the selection of Warlen as the new director.

“While it’s a mixed bag of emotions to be nearing closer to my retirement, I’m excited to have Andrew take the reins of the Platte County Health Department,” Vernon said. “With Andrew’s many years of public health experience, I’m confident that he will serve Platte County very well in the days, months and years ahead.”

Warlen has been married to his wife, Leslie, for 21 years. They have a son, Drew, currently attending The University of Kansas and a daughter, Avery, who attends Blue Springs High School. The family has two cats and a dog. Warlen enjoys listening to audiobooks, watching movies and traveling with his family.
