Water tower to be repainted

The familiar landmark of the orange Platte City water tower received a new coat of paint this fall, but the color wasn’t what anyone was expecting.

The community began contacting the city with complaints and concerns about the desaturated shade of orange as soon as the drape covering the tower was removed and residents got a look at the less-than-vibrant hue.

“The selected paint indeed proved to be a different hue than we’ve been accustomed to,” said Platte City Administrator Tom Cole. “As it turns out, the painting contractor identified some quality issues and has agreed to repaint the tower when reliably warmer temperatures arrive. The next go around will be applied with the color our community is familiar with.”
