Noah Johnson and Gavin Davis each accounted for three touchdowns to help West Platte roll to a 46-0 victory against Lone Jack in the season opener.
The Bluejays won a season opener for the fourth time over the past five years. The shutout was the first since 45-0 win against North Platte on Sept. 19, 2014, a span of 40 games.
West Platte limited the Mules to only 106 yards of offense, including a meager 32 yards through the air.
Paul Thomas’ squad did the damage on the ground with quarterback Noah Johnson and running back Gavin Davis combining for five scores on the ground.
Johnson accounted for both first-quarter scores, running for a 2-yard score and then throwing a 4-yard touchdown to wide receiver Cole Vandel.
Davis ran for all three of his touchdowns in the second quarter, helping West Platte take a 32-0 lead at the break.
Davis, who ran for 87 yards on 14 carries, had touchdowns of 11, 16 and 7 yards. He booted two of the extra point attempts as well.
Johnson, who had a team-high 96 yards rushing, added a 19-yard score in the third quarter to start the turbo clock.
Luke Heili had a 37-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring.
Johnson passed for 55 yards, while Davis finished with 100 total yards after hauling in one catch. North Platte transfer Hunter Hendricks led the offense with two catches for 36 yards.
Davis had an interception, while he and Johnson both had a fumble recovery on defense.
Looking ahead
The Bluejays will look to win two games in a row to open the season for the first time since 2014 this Friday.
West Platte travels to Bethany, Mo., to play the Bulldogs as part of the KCI Conference/Grand River Conference crossover.
South Harrison is 0-1 after falling 32-22 to Class 1 No. 5-ranked East Buchanan in the opener.
The Bulldogs were 5-6 last year, a marked improvement from a winless 2016 under coach Mike Wilhelm.
